From the days of Maria Montessori working with a small group of children in an apartment building in Rome in the early 1900s, to more recent times with innovative charter schools and online programs, people have been working to improve how and what young students learn — and our education system at large. We’ve known for decades all the ways that our schools can be so much better, yet the research and evidence remain relatively undiscovered by the public.
That’s why the team at Sora is launching the Sora Learning Lab podcast, where we dive into the world of learning research and innovative pedagogy. Through interviews with education researchers, leaders, and innovators, we will shine a light on the important work people are doing and explore the ideas and trends behind the future of learning. Our host Garrett Smiley, co-founder of Sora, has already interviewed guests like Trace Pickering of Iowa Big and Vera Michalchik of the Connected Learning Lab at UC Irvine! Conversations have ranged in topics like the importance of real world context in school curriculum to the place of standardizing testing in our society. Through this show, the team at Sora hopes to shine a light on progressive education and push the public conversation forward on what changes schools today should be making. This is paramount to students’ success if we want to prepare the next generation for their future careers and a new world.
